A Day at the Races (1937)

A veterinarian posing as a doctor, a race-horse owner and his friends struggle to help keep a sanitarium open with the help of a misfit race-horse.

This movie was unexpectedly funny. Somehow, a film that was done over 60 years ago was making me laugh-go old movies! This film is a Marx brothers movie, featuring the comic Groucho, Chico and Harpo.

First off, Groucho is the funniest character as Dr. Hackenbush. He is called in to be a psychologist, when he is really only an 'animal psychologist'. He has the signature eyebrows, mustache (that I think is just markered on) and giant eyes.

And then there's Harpo, who does all his signature, goofy silent stunts.

The other brother, Chico, does not do as much comedy in this particular film, but between the two others there is no lack in laughter.

Warning: after watching A Day at the Races, you may have a tendency to say "Thank yo" at intervals.

Clock of Victoria pt.2

Guess what everyone? Today I bought Bella's (the 1800's time traveler) dress! I got it from a local thrift store for $10.00, new with tags. The colors are a grayish blue and rusty brown, and in the back it also has a corset.

If you notice those ruffles on the bottom will serve perfect as a first layer type of look, and the corset, though it probably won't be seen, is beautiful.

I'm planning on buying a jacket for the top of the dress, and the bottom we will sew on more fabric to make it longer. Maybe a bit like this look (if you take note of the two left ladies jackets).

(via the New York public library)

Besides the dress, I also got a very good deal on this pretty little purse here-it was only a dollar.

My main costume is in the making, and just yesterday I bought a few natural lip glosses that may be able to take other makeup products places. The play is in progress!

Cinderella Characters ~Cinderella~

Cinderella, the classic tale of a girl who's heart holds more than her step-family's combined. She is kind, compassionate, and courageous; She is patient and forgiving, at times when most would not be.

Sometimes we see Cinderella's character depicted a little more spunky, like Danielle in Ever After...

....and sometimes we see her character depicted graceful, as in Disney's 2015 Cinderella.

We know that Cinderella's ball gown always has to be absolutely stunning. Disney's 2015 movie definitely reached that mark.

Her skirt, as she danced...it was amazing, it flowed like water. Imagine dancing with such a gown.

And her slippers, though I'd imagine dangerous, were beautiful (and I hear quite comfortable).

In Ever After, her Mother's wedding dress is also very beautiful in it's own way. Of course the wings come in because she's at a masquerade, and they also add a bit on the sparkly side.

Aside from appearance, we know that Cinderella has a caring heart. She loves animals, even down to the smallest of them.

And her endurance of such an evil step-family pays off. The glass slipper fits, and her and the Prince are married. And they'll live...

Happily...

Ever...

Cinderella Characters ~The Prince~

The Prince...he's kind, brave, and quite smitten with Cinderella. We see all kinds of different Prince's, with different looks, personalities, and inspirations. Though they all have one thing in common: a devotion to better their Kingdom, and a undying love for Cinderella.

We know the Prince can dance, and him and Cinderella make a amazing pair.

Sometimes, however, even a Prince such as himself gets rejected. Maybe because he has a fan club...

...Or maybe because the girl he meets really isn't Comtesse Nicole de Lancre

Then there's, in some movies, a part where the Cinderella's true identity is revealed. Most of the time it is a devastating scene, where the humble girl is utterly crushed, and the Prince is outraged.

Though not all are terrible, like the amazing scene in Disney's 2015 Cinderella, where she confesses to the Prince who she really is, and he loves her just the same. Then they have such a splendid wedding.

And the Prince, well, we suppose he enjoys every second of his life, with his wife by his side.

" In all my years of study, not one tutor ever demonstrated the passion you have shown me in the last two days. You have more conviction in one memory than I have... in my entire being."
-Prince Henry (Ever After)

Favorite Moments from Felicity

"Tis' never a good thing to run towards something if you're

running away from something else"

-Felicity Merriman

  • At the Dinner Table
I notice how pretty the Merriman's table is, the candles, the food, their clothes, all so elegant. Nowadays we don't have all that 'civilness', but then again, we would not be appearing at the table back then with a stained sweat-shirt, would we?

"A Surprise Mother? May I have one?"
-Nan

  • "Hello Penny Girl"
Felicity gains a very strong friendship with Penny, gradually. And then they ride, so beautifully and swiftly.  But at the end of the ride, Felicity must slip back over the fence and leave her dear horse to Mr. Nye.

  • Dance Lessons
The girl's dresses in the whole movie are beautiful, especially Felicity's riding outfit. And this last time I watched it, I noticed their dancing shoes. Now, why don't we wear shoes like that anymore? I would.

  • Felicity's Prayer
It's amazing how sometimes when we we are under pressure, we do our best. Felicity's care for her Mother, her family, and the new baby are all a great example of this. But not only was it because she was under pressure, but because she loved. And so she gave and received.

  • The Ball

Thee 'Lady Templetons Ball' is very classical, and elegant. Everyone's clothes, and the dancing,  looks like it would be 'magically fun'.

  • A Merry Christmas

Everyone is forgiven, and they are all home for a lovely Christmas dinner.

7 Brides for 7 Brothers

Seven Brides For Seven Brothers: MUSIC FROM THE ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE

Last night I watched the 1954 film Seven Brides For Seven Brothers. All together it was a good movie-action and singing. After Adam, the oldest brother gets married, all his other woodsmen brothers want a wife too. So after Adam's wife Milly teaches them some manners they go to the town barn dance and meet girls for each of them. But after time goes by and nothing happens, the boys kidnap their girls and bring them back to the mountain cabin. However, after Milly finds out she makes the brothers go live in the barn, while the girls sleep in the house. Over time the girls forgive and fall in love again-resulting in an ending of a six-couple marriage.

The girls country dresses are very pretty and colorful, and of course perfect for dancing.

My favorite dancing scene is probably the barn dance...

Take note of those brilliant dresses(:

Another thing I like about the movie is that all the brothers names are alphabetical-bible names, and in the end Milly names their baby Hannah, to carry it on. What do you think?
Have you ever wanted to go to a barn dance? Have you ever watched Seven Brides for seven Brothers? Thanks for reading!

God Bless,

-Mic
